If you are looking for a longer term contraception solution, you may wish to consider these options:
IUD Insertion £150
Copper Coil (T-Safe) IUCD which lasts up to 10 years - £25 plus insertion cost
Mirena (releases the hormone levonorgestrel) which lasts for 5 years - £140 plus insertion cost
A 30-minute standard appointment to fit or remove either IUCD is required. There is no additional fee for post coil checks
IUD removal £150
Implant insertion £150
Nexplanon Implant £165 plus cost of insertion
Nexplanon is a contraceptive implant, which is a small flexible rod, inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It slowly releases etonogestrel - a hormone that resembles progesterone. It works in two ways: by preventing the release of an egg cell; and by making it difficult for sperm to enter the womb. As a result it provides effective contraception for three years but can be taken out sooner that that if required.
Only one apointment is necessary. You do not need to do anything in terms of preparing for insertion of a contraceptive implant. The implant should be inserted between day 1 (first day of menstrual bleeding) and day 5 of the menstrual cycle, even if the women is still bleeding.
Contraceptive injection (Depo Provera) - £125
Last for 12weeks
Implant Removal £150
Guidance before booking:
- If you are having an IUD (coil) fitting, it is important that you have not had any pregnancy risk since your last period. This includes taking Emergency Contraception.
- If you are having your IUD (coil) changed then you must not have had any unprotected sex in the last 7 days before your appointment or you may be at risk of pregnancy.
- It is possible to fit a coil when you are on your period so you do not need to rebook your appointment for this reason
For IUD fittings, we will send you a slf assessment form which you must fill in, print off and bring to your appointment with you.
